The $300.00 flower seed

Postby pixie » Thu Jul 29, 2010 10:03 pm

2 weeks ago at the cabin, we woke up at 4:30 a.m to our little puppy racing in circles, pawing at her ear and whimpering. She raced around for about a half hour with both of us in a panic because we had no ferry off the island for at least 3 hours. We started to pack our stuff, then she seemed to be ok. Checked her for bites, red ear (infection), nothing.

Fast forward 2 weeks. I took her for a walk yesterday. As usual she was her little goofy self, running and basically walking ME :D
When we got home she started shaking her head like crazy and acting like she did at the cabin, only worse. Her body was shaking , and she was tilting her head to the right and every time we tried to get near her she coward and wimpered. We called the vet and made an appointment for today. Since it was surgery day they couldn't see her until 5:45.

We gave her a baby aspirin which seemed to help. We put her in bed with us and the little thing crawled up between our pillows and buried her head between the pillow and headboard. She whimperd all night and I kept my hand on her body. She was so cold and stiff and started drooling. I kept checking her belly to see if she was warm and breathing. Woke up this morning and the little thing stood up and buried her head between my knees and wimpered. We called the vet as soon as they opened and they took her right away. They did xrays(looking for a tumor).

this is what it was 2 flower seed burrs that have sticky barrs that had worked their way into her eardrum  They're the things tat get stuck in your socks.

BTW? $300.00 Flower seed refers to the vet bill. I would have paid ten times that if she had anything else wrong.

I love my baby girl. I had a really long night. I honestly didn't know if I was going to have a dead puppy in the morning, but I kept thinking that there was no way she was going to pass without her mamas hand on her.

Sounds stupid, but if you guys could have seen her last night and this morning....I kept telling her "come on baby, we have deer to see, and walks to go on". I was bawling the whole time. An inner ear thing can really fuck a person up and make them act like they have a brain problem.

Whew! ((((BABY GIRL))))

They get stuck in my socks, and the dogs tails. But I have NEVER heard of them making it all the way into the eardrum of a dog. And Baby has big Bichon ears that you would think would keep them out. We brush her every couple of days. This day has just sucked...but thank God that's all it was.

Happens very common, I always check our dogs ears, when we get back from a trip the the moutains...You'll find them hiding all over their fur...with a light colored dog like yours, It'd be a bitch to see them!
